Konstatin Skoptsov was born in the city of Odessa, Ukraine.

Reserved, uninterested in physics and mathematics, he left school before finishing a ten year basic education. At the age of fourteen he started work at a state factory and dedicated his free time to self-education in arts and literature. He chose not to obtain a formal Soviet education in art because he was not willing to obey the academic rules set up to present Soviet Realism? as the only art form accepted in the country at that time. Rather, he preferred to sharpen his skills participating in underground shows where art was displayed in private spaces like studios and art cafes. When Glasnost or freedom of speech was declared Konstantin started to exhibit and sell his art and took a chance at becoming a professional artist. A turning point in his career started when he was approached by Krymski Val Gallery at the Central House of Artist, the sancta sanctorum of art life in Moscow. Collaboration with the gallery allowed Konstantin to participate in shows with the best contemporary Russian artists and introduced him to a major art scene. Later friendship with the President of the Paris Association La Fenix and founder of the Paris School of Ukrainian Painting, Temistokl Virsta, resulted in a series of shows in Paris and brought Skoptsov an international recognition.
